Hoya kerii variegated, commonly known as the variegated "Sweetheart Hoya," is a popular and visually striking cultivar of Hoya kerii. This houseplant is especially admired for its heart-shaped leaves, which give it a unique and appealing look, making it a favorite among collectors and plant enthusiasts.
Hoya kerii variegated thrives in bright, indirect light. It can tolerate some direct sunlight, but prolonged exposure to harsh sunlight can scorch the delicate variegated leaves. The plant may become leggy if it doesn't receive enough light, so it’s important to provide it with adequate brightness. Like other Hoyas, this plant is quite drought-tolerant and prefers to be watered sparingly. It’s best to let the soil dry out between waterings, as overwatering can lead to root rot.
Well-draining soil is essential. A cactus or succulent mix, or a well-aerated potting mix with added perlite, works well. The plant’s roots should not stay waterlogged. During the growing season, a diluted, balanced fertilizer can be applied every 4 to 6 weeks to promote healthy growth.
