The Lipstick Black Pagoda Plant (Aeschynanthus radicans), often simply referred to as the Black Pagoda or Lipstick Plant, is a striking, ornamental houseplant known for its vibrant and unusual appearance. It is native to tropical Southeast Asia. The plant gets its common name from its tubular, lipstick-like flowers and its glossy, dark green foliage. It is an epiphytic plant in its natural habitat, meaning it grows on trees or other plants, and as such, it thrives in well-drained, slightly acidic soil.
Lipstick Black Pagoda plants require moderate to high humidity and consistent moisture but do not tolerate soggy soil. They prefer warm temperatures and should be protected from cold drafts. The plant blooms best when provided with bright, indirect light, and it can be a bit sensitive to low light, which may result in poor flowering.
The Lipstick Black Pagoda Plant (Aeschynanthus radicans) is generally considered non-toxic to pets such as cats and dogs. However, even though it is non-toxic, it is always a good idea to discourage pets from chewing on plants, as ingesting large amounts of any plant material could potentially cause gastrointestinal discomfort.
