Calathea orbifolia is a beautiful and highly admired species within the Calathea genus, renowned for its large, round, and strikingly patterned leaves. Native to the tropical regions of South America, particularly in Bolivia, it has a distinctive, orb-like (round) leaf shape. It is a favorite among plant enthusiasts for its lush foliage and relatively easy care, making it an excellent addition to both beginner and experienced houseplant collections.

Calathea orbifolia thrives in a warm, humid environment, reflecting its native habitat in the tropical rainforest. It prefers bright, indirect light, as direct sunlight can scorch the delicate leaves and dull the vibrant patterns. While it can tolerate lower light, it may not thrive or display its full potential in those conditions. Therefore, placing it in a bright room with filtered sunlight is ideal for maintaining its vibrant color and glossy texture. It enjoys consistently moist, well-draining soil that retains some moisture but does not become soggy. Regular watering is important, but the soil should be allowed to dry out slightly between waterings to prevent root rot. It is also important to keep the humidity levels high, as Calathea orbifolia thrives in humid conditions. 

Calathea orbifolia prefers temperatures between 65°F and 80°F (18°C to 27°C). It should be kept in a place where temperature fluctuations and drafts are minimal, as it is sensitive to cold air. Like many other Calathea species, it can be a bit fussy about its growing conditions, but when cared for properly, it will thrive and reward you with its stunning foliage.
